Though a farm girl from rural Indiana, her musical style has been compared to Carmen McCrae and Shirley Horn. Colleen moved from Indiana to Chicago and while there she studied with Blue Note recording artists Jackie Allen and Patricia Barber. In Chicago she performed several years before being offered to tour as the vocalist with the Joey DeFrancesco Trio.
Since then, Colleen McNabb has toured nationally and internationally and performed with renowned jazz artists such as Buster Williams, George Benson, George Coleman, David "Fathead" Newman, Ron Blake, Paul Bollenback, Byron "Wookie" Landham, Ron Eschete, and George Cables. She is also featured on a live cut from the Joey DeFrancesco album "Authorized Bootlegs" Live at Yoshi's-concordrecords. |

"Colleen McNabb's behind-the-beat delivery and earthy, warm-toned vocal hues free her from any particular genre, era or style. Sure, her debut uses traditional swing material to gain her acceptance, but really, this young woman is all soul. Her empathetic approach is as easily applied to pop chestnuts as mainstream swing, McNabb's penchant for older fare ("Canadian Sunset") practically places her in cabaret terrain, but her hipper choices-Bill Evans' "Waltz for Debbie," Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Meditation" and her knowing take on the title track-show her to be as worldly as she is old fashioned, Not surprisingly, some of the album's best tracks feature the comfort of food B-3 organ beds that Joey DeFrancesco lays down." – Ken Micallef, Downbeat Magazine
"Colleen McNabb is a very talented young jazz singer…" – George Coleman
"Colleen McNabb's vocal style mixes sultry tones with lyric delight. Hers is a voice that reveals maturity beyond her years" – Pete Fallico, KCSM San Mateo |
